In 2022, Kiss of Death (RWA Mystery/Romantic Suspense Chapter #144) celebrated our 30th anniversary as a chapter in Washington, D. C., with events that included a visit to the International Spy Museum, The Daphne du Maurier Awards, and the awarding of the 2021 Chapter Service Awards to Jennifer Graybeal and Jacki Renée for their years of tireless service to the chapter.
From our roots as the Romantic Suspense Network, to today's Kiss of Death, the chapter has been focused on helping romance writers connect over their love of mysteries, thrillers and romantic suspense. We have done so with workshops, contests, and events including Pitchfest, Book-in-a-week (BIAW), and with Death by Chocolate at RWA’s National Conference. All of which would be impossible without the volunteers who keep things running.
With our focus on mystery and suspense, we offer online classes through the College of Felony and Intrigue (COFFIN). In 2022, we expanded our offerings to include single day zoom events. Chapter members enjoy a discount on all classes we offer, while RWA members receive a discount on two and four-week classes. The 2023 schedule will be available soon.
Our conference committee is already hard at work planning the events for the 2023 Conference in Anaheim, including a special reception for the Daphne du Maurier Awards Finalists and Death by Chocolate.
In 2023 Kiss of Death will be celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Mystery/Suspense, our chapter writing contest. Open to Published and Unpublished writers, the Daphne du Maurier Award celebrates Mystery and Suspense novels in a variety of sub-genres. The awards ceremony will be held in Anaheim, California in July 2023 during the RWA National Conference. Chapter members receive discounted entry fees.
Save the Date: The 2023 Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence contest opens to entries February 15, 2023, and closes on March 15, 2023.
