Love by Design: The Architecture of the Romance Novel Presenters: Tobi Doyle and Sheila Redling
Tobi loves plotting, story structure, and creating outlines. Sheila would rather superglue her eyelids closed than plot because she writes to find her story. Together, we'll discuss what makes: a romance a romance, your story a page-turner, readers wanting more. We're talking story elements that create a phenomenal story! Pantser and plotter friendly!

Trippin the Tropes Fantastic Presenter: Peggy Jaeger
Some things are as familiar as the taste of a peanut butter sandwich or the aroma of fresh crayons right out of that big 64-count Crayola box. We know exactly what we’ll get when we bite into that deliciousness or inhale all that waxy perfection.
Tropes work the same way. When we see a book featuring a secret baby plotline, a fake dating one, or even a marriage of convenience, we know exactly what to expect from that story. Our hearts start to race, our anticipation ramps up, and we can’t wait to dive into the story. In its truest form, a trope is the author's promise to deliver exactly what the reader wants to read.
In this workshop we’ll explore the use of tropes in our writing, the kinds used, the most popular ones readers are buying today, and examine why tropes can enhance our stories and take them to the next level. |
